An FCC filing reveals that a variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II is coming to the United States, possibly to Sprint

Looks like a CDMA/WiMAX variant of the Samsung Galaxy S II has just been certified by the FCC. Sporting model number SPH-D710, the device looks to be the Sprint Within/Galaxy S II which leaked earlier this month.

First announced back at Mobile World Congress, the Samsung Galaxy S II has taken the world by storm. I am not exaggerating when I say about 5 million models have been sold to date. Definitely impressive considering the device has yet to even grace the soil of the United States.

Hardware wise, the original international model packs a Samsung Exynos 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. The Sprint version in the filing is thought to have the same, if not very similar hardware.

So far the only additional clues from the FCC documents comes from Wireless Goodness which points out this version is 5mm taller and 3mm wider than the international Galaxy S II. Besides that though, no real differences yet, which is good.

Overall, the Galaxy S II/Within is one handset to keep your eye on. As soon as we hear anything official about a Sprint launch date we will make sure to let all of you know.

Hopefully, we will have some sort of official announcement soon.
