Rumor suggests that Verizon will begin offering $100 incentives for customers to trade in old phones

Still using a RAZR?

Verizon may be targeting its customers for special incentives in an attempt to lure them over to smartphones and more lucrative data plans.

According to Phone Arena, Verizon will offer customers with crappy dumbphones that are eligible for an upgrade the opportunity to score a smartphone at a reduced price.

Current customers who are still under contract may be eligible for an early upgrade under the deal.

After the sale, they will be given a special PIN number for Verizon’s trade-in site that they can use to ditch their old phone for a $100 gift card.

Supposedly, the deal will run from August 18th to September 30th – though Phone Arena notes that the information was given to Verizon employees in the Western region, so it could be that the incentive will be regional as opposed to nationwide.
