Handset selection for T-Mobile customers is about to get better than ever

TmoNews is reporting via a leaked internal T-Mobile document that the Samsung Hercules and the HTC Ruby are both set to launch on October 26th. Both devices will utilize the carriers 4G network and will be two of the fastest handsets on the market.

While details are not known, the Hercules is expected to be T-Mobile’s version of the dead sexy Galaxy S II, which Samsung will officially announce on August 29th. It will of course sport a dual-core processor, Android 2.3, HSPA+, a Super AMOLED Plus display and perhaps NFC.

Unlike the international Galaxy S II model, the Hercules will most likely sport a larger 4.5-inch display. The Hercules will also likely launch in Canada on TELUS.

The Ruby will launch as the more powerful successor to the Sensation. It will be equipped with a 4.3-inch display, a dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz, and possibly HTC Sense 3.5. As SlashGear reports, the Ruby will bring the greatness of the Sensation and Slide 4G together into one.

Pricing for both devices is not known at this time, but considering that these will be very high-end handsets, expect the normal 200 dollar price range.

That said, any T-Mobile customers out there as excited as I am? Would you leave Verizon or AT&T for your very own Hercules?

Apple allegedly doctored evidence in patent case against Samsung

By , 16 August, 2011, No Comment

Apple has managed to block sales of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia and in the European Union, but new evidence from Computerworld’s Dutch sister site Webwereld.nl suggests the iPad maker may be tampering with evidence. According to the report, Apple is using an image of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 that is purposely distorted to look more like the iPad. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is presented with an aspect ratio of 1.36 (the proportions of the device itself, not the display) while the iPad is shown with a 1.30 aspect ratio. However, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet itself actually has a 1.46 aspect ratio. “This is a blunder,” Klos Morel Vos & Schaap lawyer Arnout Groen told Webwereld.nl. “That such a ‘mistake’ is made in a case about design rights can scarcely be a coincidence. The aspect ratio of the alleged Galaxy Tab is clearly distorted to match the iPad more closely. Inasmuch as this faux pas will have consequences for the case is of course up to the judge. But at least a reprimand by the German court seems to be in order,” he added. Samsung is set to appeal the European Union ban on August 25th. Read on for a comparison image of the alleged doctored Galaxy Tab 10.1 next to the real one.

Samsung announcement will explain the “II”

By , 14 August, 2011, No Comment

Invitation to late August event in NYC might be for the unveiling of a new, updated LTE superphone.

What could Samsung be announcing on the 29th?

There aren’t many details on the invitation.  Just the time (evening) and the place (midtown Manhattan) and the fact that Samsung Mobile is planning on making a major product announcement.

But if you look closely – near the bottom – you’ll see the Roman numeral II.

We’re pretty sure we know what that means: our first look at Samsung’s Galaxy S II smartphone with  super fast LTE connectivity.

We do know that there have been reports circulating in the blogosphere about a handset codenamed “Celox”.

It is supposedly an all new Android model with a giant 4.5-inch Super AMOLED screen, loads of memory (plus a microSD card expansion slot) a monster rechargeable battery pack and – the star of the show – a super-fast LTE 2-way radio inside capable of supporting speeds never before experienced by mankind.

LTE would make it a Verizon Wireless phone – although it might also be a future AT&T device.  They’re promising LTE services later this year.  MetroPCS has Samsung LTE phones right now – but they would have to charge way too much for a super-Android like this.

Samsung might also be planning a phone for T-Mobile’s 4G network. Maybe not.

But we’ll know a lot more later this month when we attend the event.
