The next two Windows Phone updates will further polish the OS and provide support for low-end handsets in developing countries

With Mango already completed and a few months away from release, Microsoft just revealed plans for two updates in the future for Windows Phone, codenamed Tango and Apollo.

The upcoming release of Windows Phone, which is expected to be a much  smaller update than Mango, was suprisingly announced at The Next Generation in Development seminar in Hong Kong today. At the seminar, Microsoft revealed that the Tango update wll provide support for low-cost handsets made for developing markets.

While it’s still unclear what these low-end devices will look like, they’re expected to keep the core features of smartphones, such as web browsing and certain other features that require a data connection, yet some aspects of Windows Phone likely won’t be there at all.

As WMPoweruser points out, it’s completely possible Tango will be separate from the high-end Windows Phone all together, but we hope that isn’t the case

Meanwhile, Apollo is said to be big update aimed at high-end devices. Microsoft didn’t reveal any information on what the update will contain during the seminar, but did mention it will polish up Windows Phone even more.

With Tango and Apollo both on the horizon now, it seems whether you’re looking for a low-cost Windows Phone or are looking for the next big handset, Microsoft hopes to have a device for you.
