Windows Phone ‘Tango’ and ‘Apollo’ updates to follow Mango

By , 29 June, 2011, No Comment

Microsoft’s new Windows Phone Mango update is expected to begin rolling out this fall, but there are already reports that the company is working on the next updates, codenamed “Tango” and “Apollo.” DigiTimes reported on Tuesday that Compal Communications, which manufacturers devices for Acer and Nokia, recently inked a Microsoft deal confirming that it will build devices for Mango as well as the next-generation Tango update. Microsoft hasn’t discussed Tango yet, so it’s unclear what will be included or how big of a jump it will be from the long awaited Mango release. Reportedly, Tango will then be phased out in favor of a new “Apollo” OS, which we first heard about late last year.

The “Sea Ray” is Nokia’s first Windows phone

By , 24 June, 2011, 3 Comments

Nokia’s CEO “accidentally” leaks Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 device, codenamed “Sea Ray”

Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop asked his employees to put away their cameras during a presentation so he could give them a sneak peek at Nokia’s “super confidental” Windows Phone 7 device, codenamed “Sea Ray”.

If it’s true that Elop didn’t want Sea Ray leaked to the blogosphere, he’s either overestimated his employee’s loyalty or he’s completely naive. Though it seems more likely that he knew exactly what he was doing and hoped the video and images would go viral.

Either way, we do have some detail on Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 device courtesy of Hungarian site Technet.hu.

Not surprisingly, it looks nearly idential to the recently annouced N9, which we assumed wouldn’t be relegated to the lame duck MeeGo platform.

However, there are a few differences – notably a repositioned LED placement on the back and what appears to be a shutter release on the side.

Elop also noted that the device features a gorilla glass display and a “pillow shaped backing”

Presumably, we will see much more on Sea Ray in the coming months as Nokia races to get Windows Phone 7 up and running on its handsets by the end of the year.

The US version of the HTC ChaCha appears destined for AT&T according to leaked press shots

The HTC ChaCha QWERTY candybar Facebook phone has been spotted with AT&T branding.

The leaked press photos obtained by PocketNow also show a redesigned Facebook button and some key rearrangements when compared to the European version launched earlier this year.

Based on the 3G icon, we wouldn’t expect the ChaCha to be HSPA+ compatible either.

In case you need a referesher, the HTC ChaCha features a 2.6-inch display (480×320 pixels), 800MHz processor, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 4-row QWERTY keyboard and Android 2.3.3 with HTC Sense 3.0 on board.

As alluded to earlier, it also features a dedicated Facebook button for quick sharing with friends.

If you are are looking for a release date, the screenshot pictured here shows Sunday, July 17 – which may or may not be official. Either way, we should see it by the end of this quarter.
