New Windows Phone handsets from Samsung, HTC, and LG could be launching very soon
DigiTimes is reporting that LG, Samsung and HTC are currently prepping several new Windows Phone Mango devices for a September launch. The multi-manufacturer launch is said to occur in September in order to compete with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5.
The report indicated that HTC’s handsets will be equipped with touch screens sized between 3.8-inches and 4.7-inches and will be powered by Qualcomm CPUs clocked at 1.5GHz. The processor is actually rumored to be the same processor that is found in the HTC Flyer tablet.
Sources also indicated that Nokia will launch its first Windows Phone Mango device during its annual Nokia World conference in October 2011. Acer, Fujitsu-Toshiba and ZTE are also preparing to launch new phones in the coming months although it is unclear when and how those devices will be announced.
While DigiTimes has been reliable in the past, this story might or might not be totally true as Microsoft and its OEMs don’t need to directly compete with Apple’s iPhone just yet, or Android even. Microsoft’s real goal should be and probably is just to get Windows Phone devices to market as soon as possible.
Microsoft has set a goal of selling 100 million Windows Phone devices by the end of this year.
