Groupon offers university tuition discount

Location-based daily deal service Groupon has taken its first step beyond half-price restaurants and cheap day-trips by offering a 60 per cent discount on a university course.

The private, Chicago-based National Louis University hopes to attract 15 new students to its graduate teacher training course for the knock-down price of $950.

The three-credit, introductory course has a regular price of $2,232.

Career opportunities

"There are all kinds of factors in the K-12 world that are really discouraging teachers and people seeking teaching degrees," said Jocelyn Zivin of National Louis.

She says the course will help students "understand what the realities are, whether you are committed to this profession … and see if you have what it takes."

Groupon says this offer is the first step towards a new type of deal, which will help people build careers, rather than just get a cheap ice cream every once in a while.

"This is… an opportunity for our subscribers to take the first step toward what could be a new career," said Julie Mossier, Groupon’s communication director.

Perhaps Groupon could have a word with David Cameron to offer some discounts on tuition fees at home?

Sporting a 4.3-inch qHD display, the Amaze 4G is HTC’s fastest phone yet

Hot on the heels of last week’s HTC Ruby/Amaze 4G leak, more images of T-Mobile’s upcoming Android smartphone from HTC have been posted online.

Obtained by Thai-language Android news site Droid Sans, the images while they may be a bit blurry, show us more than anything we’ve seen thus far. This will be the fastest phone launched to date by HTC packing a speedy 1.5 Ghz dual-core CPU and 1GB of ram.

Highlights also include a 4.3-inch qHD display, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor, an 8-megapixel camera, 16GB of storage, 1GB of RAM and HSPA+ 42 compatibility for use on T-Mobile’s network, among others. These specs all match up with details reported on by tech site BGR late last month.

This is My Next reports that the Amaze is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sense 3.5, though Sense doesn’t appear to be enabled on the prototype in the photographs.

For now that is all the details and specs we have but should be seeing and hopefully hearing more shortly. Last time we saw the Amaze 4G in white so chances are we might be seeing multiple colors offered at launch. Stay tuned for more details.

Watch this space.
