Thrill 4G

The LG Thrill 4G, AT&T’s version of the Optimus 3D, should be arriving this week in Radio Shack stores across the country according to the flyer you see above.  The good news is that once they arrive, the Shack is able to start selling them right away.  We’ve seen a few delays with this one, so we’ll take a "this week" release date and be thankful for it.  The Thrill will cost you $80 with new contract or a qualifying upgrade, or $550 for those that prefer to stay contract-free and use cash.  If you pick one of these up, be sure to tell us about it in the forums!

Thanks, Anon!

HTC Evo 3D UK release date confirmed for September

By , 29 July, 2011, No Comment

HTC has told TechRadar that the Evo 3D, its first phone with a 3D screen, will be available in the UK in September.

This is in contrast to the July release date given for the European launch back when the phone launched a few weeks ago, although no reason has been given for pushing the date back.

The statement simply reads: “We can confirm that the HTC EVO 3D will be available to UK customers through Carphone Warehouse from September 2011.”

All true

This announcement confirms what TechRadar exclusively told you yesterday, that Vodafone had decided to remove the HTC Evo 3D from its forthcoming roadmap, citing delays to the handset.

The move from HTC could put the Evo 3D in direct competition with the iPhone 5, which is expected to launch in the UK around the same time – will the 3D screen be enough to compete?

We’re expecting a slew of new handsets from pretty much every manufacturer to be available in September and October, so it’s going to be a difficult time if your upgrade day is looming.

BlackBerry Bold 9930 now available from Verizon for $249.99

By , 16 August, 2011, No Comment

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 is now available online from Verizon for $249.99

The BlackBerry Bold 9930 has officially been added to Verizon’s online store for $249.99 on contract.

So, if you are the impatient early adopter type, by all means grab it now. If you want to save a few bucks however, wait a week or two for the inevitable drop to $199.99 or less. If you wait a few months, it will probably be free.

There hasn’t been any world on when the BlackBerry Bold will be available in actual stores, but Engadget points to August 25th as the likely date.

Features on the BlackBerry Bold 9930 include a 2.8-inch touchscreen display (640 x 480), full QWERTY keyboard with trackpad navigation, 1.2 GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera with flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities and RIM’s new BlackBerry 7 OS.

We got a chance to test out the BlackBerry Bold 9930 for ourselves back in May and concluded that it was “fast, powerful and light, with good looks that should turn heads.”

However, in my opinion this is really more of the same from RIM – and that’s not a good thing. The hardware is not really up to snuff specs-wise when compared to the dual core beasts its compeitors are churning out – though you’ll have exclusive dibs on the BlackBerry 7 OS since there isn’t any legacy support.

Obviously, die-hard BlackBerry fans will be excited about the 9930, but RIM has to shake things up a bit more if they want to stop the bleeding.
