Jailbroken iOS 5 gets third-party Notification Center widgets

Cydia developers have already begun adding their own Notification Center widgets to the jailbroken iOS 5

Cydia developers are wasting no time taking advantage of the new Notification Center in iOS 5. Third party widgets have already been developed for jailbroken iPhones.

As you have probably heard, a tethered jailbreak was announced for iOS 5 months ahead of the update rollout.

The Notfication Center is Apple’s Android-esque solution to the problematic iOS notification system. Currently, the only official widgets available for iOS 5 involve weather and a stock ticker.

Third-party widgets like UISettings also give the Notifications Center support for network and phone controls, 9to5Mac reports.

Other unsactioned widgets include Widget Task, which merges the standard iOS mulitasking tray with Notifications Center. There’s also a widget called MusicCenter that allow users to view their current audio track.

Of course, this is only the beginning. Expect plenty more third party widgets to roll out in the months ahead.

Hopefully, Apple will open up the Notification Center to all developers sometime after iOS 5 drops in the Fall.
