Google on Tuesday announced a revamped Android Market for smartphones that includes movie rentals and e-books in the U.S., as well as a more streamlined UI.
As the Android Developers Blog points out, the new interface should work better for both customers and developers. The UI is intended to be more engaging as it showcases top apps and games while providing a quicker path to purchasing products. For developers, this means that there are more opportunities for apps to get picked up and downloaded.
Aside from the changed interface, Android users might be interested to learn that they can now purchase books, as well as rent movies starting at $1.99. Something that has been needed for quite some time.
The new Android Market is available for smartphones running at least Android 2.2 Froyo and higher. The new version will be rolling out worldwide in the coming weeks, so hang tight international users.
