The 4G BlackBerry PlayBook’s delay was mentioned in passing at yesterday’s Q4 earnings call
At Thursday’s Q4 earnings call, Research In Motion’s Co-CEO Mike Lazaridis revealed that the 4G versions of RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook tablets will not launch this summer, as the company had previously announced.
The delays were mentioned in passing as Lazaridis mentioned how excited he was to be launching 4G PlayBook models this fall. RIM had previously stated that three 4G versions of its PlayBook — an LTE model for Verizon Wireless, a WiMAX model for Sprint, and an HSPA+ model for AT&T — would launch sometime this summer.
During the Q4 earnings call, RIM also noted that the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 9930 would be delayed until the end of August or possibly September. Like the 4G PlayBooks, RIM has said previously that the new Bold would launch this summer.
Obviously, RIM has yet to make any of this official but unless Lazaridis just slipped on his language, we’re at least a few months away from seeing 4G models of the PlayBook hit the market.
Definitely disappointing news for PlayBook fans and certainly RIM investors.
