Nokia N8 is shipping (photos)

By , 30 September, 2010, No Comment

SALO, Finland and BEIJING, China – The first Nokia N8 devices have left the factories in Finland and China and are now making their way around the world. First recipients will be those who pre-ordered and with the highest ever pre-order for a Nokia device, there will be plenty of happy Nokia N8 users over the coming weeks.

Being a global device launch, the Nokia N8 is shipping in tens of different languages to dozens of operators around the world. That isn’t something that happens overnight and as factory production ramps up, so will the numbers of trucks leaving with freshly boxed N8s on board.

Whilst the first lucky users will be unboxing their Nokia N8 before the weekend, others can expect to be receiving theirs over the coming days and weeks. We’re super excited about this device and we know you are too. Check out our shipping gallery below.

Nokia makes world’s biggest cinema screen [video]

By , 30 September, 2010, No Comment

ROSENGÅRD, Sweden - Last week, the Nokia N8 broke a world record for the world’s smallest stop motion animation, named Dot. Then on Saturday, the folks at Nokia Sweden decided to go the other way, erecting what must count as one of the world’s biggest cinema screens. Residents of the city district of Rosengård were treated to a movie night they will never forget, powered by a Nokia N8 through it’s HDMI port in stunning high-definition.

Creating the world’s biggest cinema screen is no easy task, as it takes a lot of planning, teams of people and specialised equipment to make sure it all comes together. The 1,428 square metre (that’s 51 metres x 28 metres) cinema screen is so large that it had to be assembled, and watched, outside. The screen was hoisted up in front of a tower block, and held in place by two giant cranes while four XLM HD30 projectors, each weighing 140 kilos, projected the Prince of Persia movie onto it. Onlookers were amazed and delighted to witness this world record happening in their own district.

Day

Night

About 1,500 people turned up to see this massive movie and it’s estimated that another 1,000 local people simply watched it from their apartments or balconies. The previous world record was held by Pinewood Studios in Middlesex, Great Britain, with a cinema screen measuring 73.1 metres wide and 18.3 metres high and with a total area of 1,338 square metres.

Do you live in Rosengård? Did it bring your community together in a unique way? If you saw the event, we would love to hear from you in the comments below.

Poll results: What was your favourite device from Nokia World 2010?

By , 29 September, 2010, No Comment

LONDON, England – Shortly after Nokia World came to an end, we asked you which of the new devices announced caught your eye the most. Did you prefer something small and sleek like the Nokia C6-01? Or something big, bold and beautiful like the Nokia E7? Let’s find out, as we look at the results of ‘What was your favourite device from Nokia World 2010?’.

There’s no doubt what device came out on top in this poll. 70 per cent of you prefer the Nokia E7 over the other three candidates, making it the clear winner. In the words of Anssi Vanjoki, this device is ‘BIG’, and it clearly doesn’t disappoint.

Second and third place are quite close, with the Nokia C7 receiving 13.5 per cent of the votes, and the C6-01, 10.5 per cent. The form factor of these devices is relatively similar, so that might reflect why the votes are close here.

Finally, and with 6 per cent of the vote, is the Nokia C3 Touch and Type. This is a neat little phone, and the Touch and Type element makes it really simple to use. It’s the only device in the poll running series 40 as it’s OS, so you guys obviously demand more from your phone.

What do you make of the results? Let us know in the comments below.
